Created in 1998, the SCSO is one of Texas Cycling’s most beloved rides. It’s very easy ride, lasting about 2 hours. To mix it up a bit, some people like to sprint down Great Northern Blvd. But you don’t have to, of course. People usually use this ride as a chill/recovery ride from the previous day’s SdlC (see below).

Sprint de la Coursa

The SdlC hurts. Every Thursday, painful screams of cyclists reverberate throughout East Austin. Quickly becoming one of Texas Cycling’s most infamous rides, the SdlC caters to seasoned racers who want to gauge themselves against others, and beginners who want to develop those racing legs. If you’re even the least bit competitive and can ride 30 miles, then the SdlC is right for you. The SdlC consists of eight sprints of varying terrain. The winner of each sprint receives three points, second receives two points and third gets one point. After each interval, we regroup before entering the next sprint. There is a designated start/finish point for each sprint.

Old Airport

The Old Airport is where we usually do criterium, time trial, and team time trial practices. It’s about an .8 mile long loop, so it’s near impossible to get lost on it. Oftentimes, we play workout games, like… fixed-gear sprinting, leadout honch, pursuits. It’s quite fun.

Manda Loop (aka UT Road Race)

The site of the 2004 UT Road Race. Very gentle rollers, killer wind. Routed among the cotton fields of Texas, the Manda Loop is a glimpse of the very old school Texas living. Horses, cows, hot sun, and strong winds dominate the vast landscape.
